I love that the Art of French Cooking is one of your inspirations.

I do wonder how many other quantifiable self folks also get really excited about the methodologies of work int he kitchen. My hunch is there's some significant overlap.

I think you must be right. Workman (the publisher that I ended up being most excited to work with) is very deep into cookbooks. I don't think that's a total coincidence. The overlap is at least partly around the pleasure/power of learning. Just to be in this immediate feedback loop where you are curious about something and then get some advice, and then apply the advice, and then are able to tell if it works right away. Once you get a taste for it, it just is something you want to keep doing. The first time I made the soufflé in Mastering the Art of French Cooking and it popped up four inches. I think I did a little soft shoe on the linoleum.
